Shoulder Pain Treatment
Recent analysis of all the research data available shows that the use of corticosteroid injections for rotator cuff injuries is pretty ineffective. Here at Riviera Wellbeing, we get great results treating shoulder issues with manual therapies.
Correct diagnosis – the key to shoulder pain treatment!
Pain in the shoulder can be caused by a number of reasons; pain referred from the many muscles and tendons surrounding the shoulder itself, tendonitis, impingement of the nerves which pass through the shoulder, frozen shoulder (adhesive capitulitis) to name but a few.
The successful treatment of any shoulder problem relies on the correct diagnosis. Once we understand the cause of the problem, many shoulder-related issues can be cured using manual mobilisation and manipulation, massage and soft tissue work, acupuncture or dry needling, and mobilisation and strengthening exercises.
Our practitioners treat shoulder pain using a package of care that may include manual therapies, exercise, therapeutic and postural advice.
Muscle and rotator cuff injuries
We treat general shoulder injuries using a combination of mobilisation, soft tissue work, acupuncture and prescription of the appropriate exercise plans.
In general, many of these type of problems can be cured reasonably quickly.
Re-occurrence of this type of complaint can be reduced by keeping the thoracic spine mobile, and strengthening of the shoulder blade and rotator cuff muscles.
Frozen Shoulder (adhesive capitulitis)
Frozen shoulder is caused by inflammation within the shoulder joint and can lead to severe restriction of movement in the long term.
Symptoms of frozen shoulder are similar to some of the other conditions which often leads to mis-diagnosis. The treatment of frozen shoulder, however, is very different to that of the other conditions, so seeking a correct diagnosis is key. There’s is no magic, immediate cure to a frozen shoulder, but early intervention, and the use of the correct techniques can significantly ease the discomfort, and help decrease the recovery time.
The ‘Neil Asher’ Technique
Our Chiropractors are registered ‘Neil Asher Technique’ practitioners. The following is taken from the ‘NAT’ website, and explains the philosophy behind the technique.
”The Neil-Asher Technique™ is a ‘natural’ method of treatment that utilizes the body’s own healing mechanisms. No drugs, no surgery. The technique uses a specific and unique sequence of manipulations and pressure points to the shoulder joints and soft-tissues. In essence, these can be thought of as ‘inputs’ into the nervous system. The technique has been in use since 1997 and has been adopted and approved by Doctors, Physiotherapists, Osteopaths, and Chiropractors in the UK, Europe, and the United States. NAT works with the body, listening to the body’s wisdom – not by forcing the arm into the restricted ranges but by applying gentle stimulation to muscles whilst they are resting.”
There is a wealth of information on the internet about the technique and it’s benefits
